5 simple ways to feel good when life gets busy
September is just here, and it means one thing: back to business. Whether it means studying, working, job hunting, or simply getting your life back on track after a well-deserved summer break, the lazy summer days are slowly making way for packed calendars, early mornings and to-do lists. Suddenly, there’s somewhere to be, something to do and probably five things you forgot to do yesterday. While getting back into a routine can feel refreshing, it can also be easy to put yourself last when life gets busy.
But a new routine doesn’t have to be all about productivity. September can also be a chance to create small habits that make everyday life feel a little better. So, as we head back to business, here are a few simple ways to make sure you still feel good, even when life gets busy:
1. Start your day without your phone
Trust me on this one! Even if it’s just 5–10 minutes of scrolling before jumping out of bed – don’t do it. Give yourself a few quiet minutes to wake up before the notifications, emails and endless scrolling begin. Your brain will thank you for it.
Additionally, be present. Sometimes focusing too much on your phone takes attention away from meeting new people or having meaningful social interactions, which are scientifically proven to benefit our mental health.
2. Romanticise, romanticise, romanticise!
Use the fancy plates for dinner, put on music while you get ready, wear the new skirt to the office, drink water from a wine glass – you name it! Pay attention to the small things and find ways to make everyday routines a little more fun, beautiful and exciting.
Remember, finding joy in the little moments and feeling grateful for them positively affects our brain.
3. Take a 5-minute reset
Take five-minute breaks throughout the day. Meditate, listen to your favourite song, do a couple of deep stretches, make yourself a cup of tea, or give yourself a facial gua sha massage. These five minutes should be intentional, calm and solely for you.
We know it is hard to start; however, putting you in focus, even for a little time, has a feel-good effect you carry all day.
4. Make your everyday products work harder
When life gets busy, simplify. Choose products that fit naturally into your routine, that you actually use and that you know work well for you. When it comes to skincare, less is often more. Read more about skinimalism in our previous blog post.
5. Daily positive mantras
Remind yourself that everyone has their own path, and you are not in a rush. When life gets busy and stressful, it’s easy to compare yourself to others or feel like you’re falling behind. Instead, choose a positive mantra to come back to whenever you need a little reminder to slow down, trust yourself and focus on your own journey.
Here are a few to get you started:
“Everything that happens to me happens for my greatest benefit.”
“I am exactly where I need to be.”
“I’m doing my best, and that’s enough.”
At the end of the day, getting back into a routine doesn’t mean you have to do more. Sometimes, it’s simply about making the things you already do feel a little better. So take a breath, slow down and enjoy the little things, even on the busiest days.
